Norway: Liza Vassilieva Qualifies for Melodi Grand Prix Final

The fifth Melodi Grand Prix semi-final has taken place, where four acts competed with just one qualifying spot up for grabs.

It was previously announced that the Norwegian selection would consist of five semi-finals, with four acts in each semi-final. Just one act will qualify each week, and the qualifiers will join five already qualified artists, Sondrey, Didrik & Emil, Akuvi, Ulrikke Brandstorp and Tone Damli.

The four competing acts in the semi-final were put into two duels, where a winner was decided for each duel. The winners would then move onto the ‘Gold Duel’ where the winner would then qualify to the Melodi Grand Prix final. The results were decided completely by online voting.

Here are the duels:

  • Jenny Jennsen – ‘Mr. Hello’ vs Elin & The Woods – ‘We Are As One’
  • Kevin Boine – ‘Stem pÃ¥ mæ’ vs Liza Vassilieva – ‘I Am Gay’

The winners of the first round were Elin & The Woods and Liza Vassilieva, but it was Liza who came out on top with her song, I Am Gay.

In each semi-final, one of the pre-qualified artists will perform their song during the show and this week Tone Damli performed her song, Hurts Sometimes.

The final line-up is now complete and is as follows:

  • Akuvi – Som du er
  • Didrik & Emil – Out of Air
  • Kristin Husøy – Pray For Me
  • Liza Vassilieva – I Am Gay
  • Magnus Bokn – Over the Sea
  • Raylee – Wild
  • Rein Alexander – One Last Time
  • Sondrey – Take My Time
  • Tone Damli – Hurts Sometimes
  • Ulrikke – Attention

Next week all 10 artists will take to the stage to perform their songs again, with one artist to be selected to represent Norway at Eurovision this year.
